Progress pattern

The mainstay of the club is the skating school, through which new skaters are brought to the club.

The basic skills of figure skating are practised at the skating school. Age groups are indicative and skaters are placed in a group that matches their skills and not just in an age group. As skills accumulate, skaters can move to either a hobby group or a solo skating development group as recommended by the coaches.

The hobby group practices a variety of skating skills, such as steps, slides, pirouettes and easy jumps.

All competition levels have age limits and skill requirements set by the Finnish Figure Skating Association. Coaches decide the highest league level at which a skater can compete. The typical transition from one competition level to another is illustrated in the figure below using arrows.

Training groups and competition levels do not go hand in hand. Coaches decide in which group everyone can train, regardless of the competition level.
